The Project

Max Paul and Rachel Roberts as Ile and Moondirt

Plot according to David Finnigan (its writer)

Five creatures departed from the city of Bilennium on a mission into the mountains. Two survivors (pharmacist Ile and blues-singer Moondirt) begin the journey home through the frozen peaks and ravines, carrying the proof of their successful achievement. As the play begins, Ile and Moondirt are halfway up a steep cliff-face when they realise that the sun has set and night is falling fast. Rather than risk their lives climbing in the dark, the pair decide to tie themselves to the cliff wall and wait out the hours until it is light again. As the darkness grows, the pair begin to hear sounds that suggest their victory was not as complete as they had hoped.

The narrative of Ile and Moondirt relentlessly throws up images of the human body in acute states of ignorance – ignorance of sensual touch, of warmth, of human empathy and of consciousness, and follows this idea to its inevitable conclusion where bodies become obsolete tools, discarded when something more efficient becomes available. The overarching aim of the endeavour is to build a set of interacting stimulus that gives an audience an environment to process complex intellectual concepts on a visceral level.  In essence our aim is to trigger body empathy from an audience that will aid them in discovering that the body is not an obsolete tool to interact with the world but a rather a vital and exciting one. We are aiming to create an immersive story that is governed by its own set of strange yet alluring rules, above all striving to create an event that is inclusive, sensual and thrilling for both audience members and performers.
